This week's edition of The Spectator features two of my gags in a pull-out cartoon supplement. Here's one of them:
The supplement supposedly features 'some of The Spectator's best cartoons from the last decade', and it's great to appear in such a context alongside some true greats of the business. I'm particularly glad that this cartoon made it in: it was one of the first I ever sold (as you can see by the rather big and clumsy signature, which I've since streamlined to make it more legible). And I've always liked the joke. It falls into a fairly traditional category of gag cartoon, in which a wife sees through the stupidity of her husband's behaviour - but also has a pretty absurd and exaggerated element to it. My drawing style has changed a fair bit since this was published in 2008, so it's interesting to look back at it now.
In his introduction to the pull-out, Michael Heath, The Spectator's cartoon editor, very kindly mentions me as one of the 'smart new kids on the block' to look out for, alongside the excellent WiLbur and Len. I just hope I can live up to that in the future!
